Garage Door Repair

Garage Door Roller Replacement

Cheap steel rollers wear flat and rust; worn rollers make the door rumble, wobble and work the opener harder. We swap them for quiet, sealed-bearing nylon rollers that run smoother and last far longer.

Garage Door Roller Replacement

Signs you need roller replacement

  • Grinding or rumbling as the door moves
  • Rollers wobbling or tilted in the track
  • Cracked wheels or rusty bearings
  • Door shakes or jumps
  • Rollers that no longer spin

What we do

  1. Replace rollers one section at a time, safely
  2. Upgrade to sealed nylon rollers on request
  3. Inspect hinges for wear and cracks
  4. Lubricate hinges, bearings and springs
  5. Test for smooth, quiet travel

Good to know

A typical double door has 10 to 14 rollers. The bottom rollers sit on the bracket that holds the cable, so they're replaced with care while the door is secured.

How it works

Where this part sits on your door

Ten parts do all the work. Tap a number to see what each one does, how it fails, and how we fix it — or let the tour run.

Torsion spring

What it does
Counterbalances the door's weight so it lifts with little force.
How it fails
Snaps with a loud bang after ~10,000 cycles; the door won't lift.

FAQ

Roller Replacement questions

Are nylon rollers worth it?

For most homes, yes. Sealed-bearing nylon rollers are much quieter and don't rust the way plain steel rollers do.

How often should rollers be replaced?

Basic rollers often last 5–7 years; quality nylon rollers can last 15 years or more.

Can I replace the bottom rollers myself?

We don't recommend it. The bottom bracket is under cable tension and can cause injury.
